Spain trip? How to stay online without roaming bills

Practical tips for Madrid, Barcelona, and beyond — when to install, how much data you need, and what to avoid.

Spain trip? How to stay online without roaming bills

Spain is one of our most popular destinations — cafés, metro, maps, and Instagram all need data. Here's how to stay online without paying EU roaming surprises.

How much data do you need?

  • Light (maps + WhatsApp + email): 1–3 GB for a week
  • Normal (photos, rideshares, streaming a little): 5–10 GB
  • Heavy (hotspot, lots of video): 15 GB+ or unlimited-style plans

When to install

Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi. Leave it off until you land at MAD, BCN, or your first Spanish city. Then enable Cellular Data on the travel line and Data Roaming for that eSIM only.

Good habits in Spain

  • Download offline Google Maps for your city
  • Prefer Wi-Fi in hotels and cafés for big uploads
  • Keep your home SIM active for bank OTPs

Browse Spain eSIM plans on ineedesim and pick days + data that match your itinerary.
